Gordon King
President
Directing Business Representative
Gordon King began his
career in the IAM after joining the Union in 1986. Gordon hired into
McDonnell Douglas that year as a Sheet Metal & Assembly Riveter.
As a member of the old Local Lodge C, King
held a wide variety of positions. He was Lodge Sentinel and a member of
the Legislative Committee. When Lodge C was merged with Lodge A, King
held the positions of Vice-President and President.
King was elected to
the PDBR position in
2008 to fill the unexpired term of Rick Smith and re-elected in 2011 for
a full term.
In 1999, Gordon was elected to serve as a
Business Representative for District 837. As a Business Representative,
Gordon has negotiated three contracts. In addition to the normal duties
of a BR, King holds the assignments of chairing the Safety Committee,
Community Services, and Outsourcing Committee. He acts as the back-up
Chairperson for the Shop Stewards, Off-site locations, and Insurance.
In 2002, King was appointed to the position of
Assistant Directing Business Representative. Gordon is also the Senior District
Organizer.
King graduated from McCluer High School in
1982. Throughout his career, King has taken several opportunities to
further his education in order to advance the needs of the membership.
Gordon received a Certificate of Achievement for Organizing and has
several college credits for Arbitration Training completed. At the
Winpisinger Training Center in Maryland, King completed Leadership I,
Leadership II, Train the Trainer, and Advanced Leadership.
Gordon is married and has three children. He
enjoys watching his youngest son play baseball and soccer at every
opportunity and spends the rest of his time in various activities with
his family.
