Steve McDerman joined the IAMAW in 1974 right after being hired by The McDonnell Douglas Corporation  as a Utility Worker. Steve was upgraded to General Machinist within six months of hiring in.

 

Steve was selected to serve as the Assistant Directing Business Representative in April of 2008.

 

Steve began serving the District as a Shop Steward and served as such for over 16 years. He was elected as a Plant Chairman for over two and one-half years before being elected as a Business Representative. During his career, Steve has served on the B Lodge New Technology Committee, B Lodge Delegate Body, and was the Lodge Recording Secretary.

 

For the last six years, McDerman's role as a Business representative has placed him in a wide variety of positions. At the current time, Steve is the Business Representative covering all GKN grievance procedures, many Boeing grievance procedures, Chairman for the Shop Stewards Committee, New Technology Committee and Off-Site Locations Committee. He serves as back-up chairman for the Safety Committee, Human Rights Committee, Women's Committee, and Community services Committee.

McDerman has successfully completed the Winpisinger Training Center courses for Leadership I, Leadership II, Leadership III, Advanced Leadership, Organizing, and Service Contract. In addition, Steve has completed University of Wisconsin courses in Labor Law and Contract Arbitration Proceedings.

Steve lives in O'Fallon, MO with his wife, Becky, and son, Matthew. He enjoys riding his Harley Davidson every chance he gets and donates much of his free time in supporting Harley Hawgs for Dogs events that raise money for the Guide Dogs of America.
